Uwekaji wa alama mbali mbali katika mwili kuichuna ngozi na kubakisha makovu yenye tafsiri ya uzuri,utambulisho au ishara ya kutoka stage moja ya ukuaji kwenda nyoingine imekuwa ni kitu cha kawaida kwa nchi za Afrika kama vile Uganga kuna karamajonga,Tanzania kuna wakamakonde wa kuchanja,hivyo katika mipaka ya Ethiopia na Sudan(Nuer men) kunajami ambazo zinafanya na kudumisha mila ya hiyo ya kujitia alama katika sehemu mbali mbali za mwili.
Makabila kama Bodi,Mursi na Surma ni makabila ya Ethiopia yaliyo karibu na mpkani mwa Sudan na Ethiopia ambayo yanafanya mira hiyo ya kujichanja mwilinili ikiwa kama ishara ya kuongeza uzuri kwa mwanaume au mwanamke.Pia huwa ni kama ishara ya ukubwa ya kuvunja ungo kwa mabinti na kwa wanaume pia huwa kama ishara ya kuuacha uuvula na kuingia kwenye uanaume.Mtu mwenye alama hizo ambazo huwa ni makovu ya vidonda vilivyopatikana baada ya kuchanjwa huonekana mrembo zaidi au mtanashati.
